Imagery.  I’d rather field an army of strong nouns and verbs over a nursery of weak ones, succored by adjectives and adverbs. Concrete words and your own unique perspective—that’s how you create pictures in readers’ minds. That’s how you take them to places no one's ever been.

Oh, and don't get me started on similes and metaphors!
